#SevenFiftyTwo Scandal Recap Analysis
Guillermo Diaz deserves an Emmy. This man had me crying, blushing, laughing, screaming and crying. My emotional roller coaster meter was sailing high and I’m here for all that #SevenFiftyTwo offered. #SevenFiftyTwo will never, ever remain the same to me and every Gladiator. 7:52 A.M. marks the last time Huck saw his wife Kim and his son at the metro station in DC. He sat out there everyday and when his son approached him and gave him a dollar, my heart broke into two. Hats off to Shonda Rhimes, the cast, the crew and the writers for taking it to THAT level! This was Scandal’s Emmy Worthy episode. Guillermo took it and went with it. It had a great mix of what we all love and appreciate about Scandal. It has Olitz angst. It had OPA. It had a stellar crisis situation. It had shade while smiling. I peep that shade Cyrus to Jake. I peep that. It had Huck. #HugsforHuck. After a 3 week wait, the EW Cover, The TV Guide Fan Favorite Win, The Honors Lounge Win, the #ScandalObsessed Shout-Out and #ScandalAnniversary this episode was worth it. It was 3 episodes combined into one. The Olitz dynamic! OPA opening up to Huck! The B613/Mole/Charlie/Huck and Jake Ballard dynamic!
#SevenFiftyTwo Opening – The episode kicks off with a flashback to Olivia taking the train and see a homeless Hagrid Huck. She gives him change and she promises him a cup of coffee. He tells her about train schedule. She gets on the train and she looks back at Huck. Huck had the saddest eyes and you couldn’t help but wonder what Shonda and her writers had in store for us.
Olivia Pope Fashion – Hats off to Lyn Paolo and the hair team for consistency! Anyone caught how the outfit Olivia wore was something she wore in the past episodes. There was her signature Goyard tote bag that she wore back in “The Trail.”
That Burberry trench was something she wore in “Boom Goes The Dynamite.”
Olitz in the hospital. The scene opens up with the doctor examining Olivia as Fitz looks on.
Olitz Doctor Fangirl – Yes doctor we all feel the same way you do about Fitz!!! I’ll vote for him if I had a chance.
That walk is mean! Let’s talk about that strut Fitz did to Olivia’s side. Tony Goldwyn is a beast, that is all! That was the walk of a man truly determined and sure of what he wants. He’s walking towards his future, his hopes, and his dreams – Olivia Pope. It’s no wonder that he tried to get a kiss. (He didn’t get one but later on in the episode he did and I was a pool of emotions at that point. But I digress!)
I don’t believe you anymore. Olitz, why? I’m here for the emotional roller-coaster ride these two have put us through ever since “Look at me.” Fitz not caring about his POTUS duties to be there by Olivia’s side is further proof of how much he loves her. He’s willing to jeopardize his presidency for her because she’s in the hospital. I always expressed by thoughts on this scene but here it is again…LOVE. These two still care deeply about each other. It’s just Olivia’s turn to say hurtful things to try to push him away but like Fitz said in the Rose Garden scene, he’s not going anywhere. They’re in this together.
Olivia: Stop. Please stop it.
Fitz: I’m sorry.
Olivia: You left me all alone.
Fitz: I was wrong. I was hurt.
Olivia: I don’t forgive you. You are not forgiven.
Olivia: No you can’t do this to me. You can’t stay these things. You can’t treat me like some whore you got off the streets.
Fitz: I love you.
Olivia: You keep saying that like it means something.
Fitz: I love you.
Olivia: I don’t believe you. I. don’t. believe. you. anymore.
Fitz’s Face. Look at Fitz after Olivia said that to him. #RUINED #DESTROYED #DEVASTATED
Jake Ballard’s Deception. Fitz exits her room to question Jake on what happened. It’s time to tell the truth right? WRONG! Jake Ballard lied to Fitz to save face…and I’m not here for it!
OPA finds Olivia + 752. OPA’s Chief leader is in the hospital while Huck is repeating 752 over and over. OPA (ahem Quinn started it) concludes that baseball cap guy/Albatross is onto them. It’s not a good night for OPA right now but such is a life of a Gladiator! They hit the ground running with this theory – Olivia gets a concussion the same night Huck gets attacked. Something in the milk ain’t clean indeed! Harrison (with that pop collar, I peep your style game, Harrison) is the one that goes downtown to see Olivia while Quinn and Abby stays back with Huck.
What is 752? At this point it could be anything, right? I loved what it meant for Huck. I also loved how OPA turned to Huck to try to pull him out of it. More on that later.
Huck was a person before OPA - The flashbacks also proved to me that Huck had a life prior to OPA. Scandal took us 14 years ago before we all discover the Huck we know now. He was apart of the US Marines, and was in love with his librarian girlfriend Kim (portrayed by the fantastic Jasika Nicole.) She had his back when he told her about a government job he has going for because it meant they will be together and the job will allow them to finally see each other everyday. How Huck surprised Kim at work though?
The interview -He returned home to be initiated into B613 and my Huck feelings were all over the place. I started reaching for my Kleenex box the minute I saw Charlie because I knew it’s not going to good from this point on. How Huck read down his B613 interview with proving he was always about that tech life. When Huck explained all the details in the room like Charlie’s gun in his pocket and the cameras, it took me back to all the times OPA told him, “English, Huck!” LOL!
You were abandoned when you were three years old. No parents. No family. No wife. No kids. We’ll be your family. We’ll train you. We’ll take care of you.
Food for thought - The only unease thing about this interview was the fact that Huck had no way out of it. He’s in it for good regardless of the fact. Also what’s up with the lollipop Charlie??? Was I the only one interested in the salary? If Hollis Doyle’s daughter could cut off her ear for millions upon millions, what is the salary of a trained Bc613 Operative, huh?
This is wonderland, sir. Your whole life changes today. - Truer words couldn’t be spoken, right?
Welcome to B613. I know I wasn’t the only one that threw my pillow on the floor when this was said, right?
Kim & Huck – Jasika and Guillermo’s chemistry had me smiling, blushing and laughing. I loved how Huck sneak up on her at work (re: the library as she read a children’s story.) I loved how Kim talked about his scent. I loved how they cuddle in bed. It amazes me how much Huck allowed her to touch her when in present time touch has become a sensory trigger for him. It wasn’t until Olivia’s calming touch which pulled him out of his 752 past.
As soon as Kim said to Huck, “Oh please, these government dudes are gonna love you”, I made a mental note to brace myself. Hold me!
HARRISON vs. HAL - Then there was Harrison. “I need to see my boss NOW!”
Harrison went down to the hospital to see Liv but Hal blocked his entry in especially when Harrison broke down his constitutional rights. LAWD! Hal wasn’t about to let Harrison in and that told him what he need to know! This is the grassy knoll stuff that Harrison told Quinn and Abby about that Olivia’s involved in. Look at Harrison’s face. Was this the first time he didn’t win someone over with his talk? Maybe I’m reading too much into it but Harrison looked like a pin to a ballon. Also I’m not here for Snitching Hal out of all people to try to shut down Harrison.
Harrison’s slide was MEAN!!!! Harrison sliding down the hallway to catch the baseball cap guy (the audience knows it’s Charlie but Harrison didn’t get a clear look at his face.) Get it Harrison!
Charlie escaped!!! I’m at this point…
Harrison is a smart dude. So I know he’ll try to figure it out.
Charlie overheard Harrison’s conversation with the SSA Men and he’s on the phone with Cyrus (duh) to let him on this latest development. Of course Cyrus Beene exploded when he heard this tidbit, right? We’ll get to that moment in a bit!
Harrison returns back to OPA with news. “Baseball cap guy was at the hospital. They’re onto us.” I loved what he told Abby and Quinn. Security’s tight. No one is getting in or out of there. It was the truth but not the whole truth. However Abby had to be the one to give him grieve about it. “Abby she’s safe.” “Yeah until your VIP checks out okay.” Oh Abby!
Huck’s first day on the job. Charlie tells him as he whips out scandalous stuff from a toolbox that the job is to kill people. They torture people to get the information that they need and then they kill them. Look at Huck’s face though. Is it that joy?
When Charlie mentioned that it’s important to do the kill on garbage day because it’s easier to dispose the body, I thought back how Huck handled the Pastor’s dead body in The Other Woman. Full circle, eh?
Huck’s first day on the job. Charlie broke it to Huck: There are no outs. You signed a contract with the US government. We get to see his first kill and how his watch obsession came into existence.
We don’t realize at this point of the episode but Huck does something that now makes sense when you think of Artie stealing his watch back in Hunting Season.
For each kill he does, he saves their watch. (We also see later on in the episode that Huck keeps the watches of his kill underneath his piano at home. I loved how this was a nod to Huck getting mad at Artie from Hunting Season for touching his stuff. We also see how Huck juggles being a boyfriend to Kim and killing folks on the job. Look at Huck. Look at his face.
She’s a Brick House! Loved the music played during Huck’s first day at the job!!! Charlie to Huck: Always do the job on trash day. By the time anyone misses them, they’re buried under garbage. Look at Huck’s face after: Yeah it was freaking amazing! Oh my Huck! He’s on the dark side of the moon now! LAWD!
Phone chat - Harrison and Olivia talk on the phone. Harrison told her that he saw the secret service…and there’s a length of silence that said it all, didn’t it? WOW! Gladiator.in.a.suit, indeed! He also let her in on the Huck situation. Olivia advises him to keep talking to Huck. So I’ll take it that Harrison now knows, right???? And this was his way of telling her that he now knows….and it’s none of his business. Let me love you, Harrison! Loyal, ride or die friends are hard to find. LAWD! And let’s talk about Harrison leading up against the wall. Let’s talk about Harrison’s face when he dropped that truth bomb! WOW and WOW! There was no judgments! Just loyalty.
Harrison: You don’t know what 752 happens to mean by any chance.
Olivia: No clue why?
It’s something Huck keeps saying over and over.
Keep everyone talking to him, even if he can’t talk back. He needs that. He needs us.
Will do. Liv….I…ugh…was there tonight, at the hospital. I saw the guy. The guy who got Huck. The guy who got you. He was there too.
Don’t worry about me. I’m safe.
I know…I saw the secret service.
It’s none of my business…Just get back here as soon as you can.
Quinn & Huck scene - Quinn talks to Huck about life before the Cyrtron and having hate for Hollis for destroying her life. This was the start of OPA’s confessions to Huck.
OPA’s confessions to Huck were true insight into the minds of our favorite Gladiators in a suit. We got to see what was truly on their minds on one of biggest nights in OPA. Their leader Olivia Pope was in the hospital for a concussion while Huck was repeating 752 over and over again. It comes as NO surprise that all three at point mentioned “Olivia” and “Gladiator.” When each OPA Gladiator had their one on one with Huck I thought back to that montage that rolled when Cyrus was investigating OPA. Everything comes full circle in this moment, did it not?
They are true gladiators in a suit who were bought together by Olivia. They are a family now. Huck repeating 752 actually bought OPA closer than ever before.
I don’t know what being in a crate did to you. You can’t let it eat you alive. Whatever it is you gotta let it go.
You are letting it steal your life and you can’t do that.
With Quinn’s confessional to Huck, she imagined a happy married life with Jesse Tyler before Cytron, Hollis Doyle and the death of Lindsay Dwyer all happened. I loved that she talked out what was on her mind. I also love the advice she gave Huck was the very thing I think Quinn has comfortably reached. We saw how welcoming Quinn was of Hollis when he came by OPA right? She didn’t let him or Defiance steal her life. Look at how Quinn has embraced being a Gladiator and being apart of #HuckleberryQuinn. Huck took her under his wings to reach her the ropes of being a bad-ass Gladiator and like he said it best, she’s “a natural.”
Quinn’s confessional to Huck:
I used to be one of those girls that could picture her wedding, like every detail. I loved those big, poofy dresses with all the beading and long veils. My bridesmaids were gonna wear blue; all the same fabric but different styles because I hate when all the bridesmaids have to wear the same dress. Jesse smiling at me as I walk down the aisle on my dad’s arm. I could picture our first house – something old that Jesse and I could remodel on weekends. With a garden. I was going to compost with worms. I could picture the vegetables we would grow. I could picture the babies we would grow. Three little girls. I could picture us growing old. I could picture this whole life and it didn’t feel like I was dreaming. It felt real like I was seeing the future, like it would happen. Now, when I picture it, it feels like a movie, like someone else’s life because Jesse is dead, and I’m not losing anymore. Hollis Doyle stole my future and that, I could have let that get to me. I could have let that eat me alive. You didn’t let me. I don’t know why being locked in that crate got you. I don’t know what it means or what happened or why, but you are letting it eat you alive. You’re letting it steal your life, and you can’t do that. You have to just let it go. Whatever it was, you have to let it go. You’re a gladiator. You can do this. You can fight this. I will help you. Look, let’s just on the count of three, we’re just gonna get up, we’re gonna go grab some coffee and just get back in the right, ok? One … Two… Three.
Here’s what we do know about Quinn from last season:
Quinn Perkins. Started less than four weeks ago. Left a cushy associates gig in O’Malley and Lee. As far as we know, Quinn Perkins didn’t exist until 2008.
We now know why Quinn didn’t exist until 2008. Defiance happened and Lindsay Dwyer became Quinn Perkins.
Hold the front door. Anyone else figured out Quinn Perkins name? I bet that’s a name Olivia and Huck agreed upon. #HuckleberryQuinn, ya’ll!
Quinn in the present:
Quinn became curious about her past life which pushed her to start making calls. She discovered that the plane ride she was on was owned by Verna –a client of Olivia. This piece of information got her to question Huck and Olivia. She soon discovered the truth and became M-A-D! So when Hollis showed up at OPA, you can understand why Quinn was all types of ….
Despite all of Quinn’s efforts to pull Huck to the present, he continues on with 752. 752. 752. 752. 752. And I’m crying for Huck at this point. What broke him in that box??? Damn it!
Huck’s about to be a dad! Huck’s not as happy as Kim wanted him to be. Kim is not about Huck not being happy either. Little does she knows that Huck’s thinking about how he’s going to protect Kim and their baby from what he does for a living. He knows that time is of essence but he hits the bullet and embraces this happy moment right then and there. He asks Kim to marry him.
When Kim tried to walk away from Huck, look at Huck’s face. It’s like someone stomp all over his heart. His whole world just ended. Huck truly loves Kim and that heartbroken look on his face said it ALL to me!
Huck said to Kim: Kim I’m not your father. I’m not going anywhere. Will you marry me? Say yes!
Huck and Kim’s monologue
I tell you I’m pregnant and your response is ‘oh’? You know what? It’s fine.
Wait, wait, wait, no, no, no, that’s-
I can do this without you, okay? If you don’t wanna…I thought that we were serious. I thought we were…But I can do this on my own. If you don’t want -
I want the baby. I do. I want the baby.
You better not be one of the guys that says they want to have a baby…You better mean it.
Then walks on me because if I’m gonna have to do this alone then I want to know right now before I get my hope -
Look, I was just surprised is all. Okay? I want this baby! I want you. Babe, Kim, I’m not your father. Okay? I’m not going anywhere. Hey, look, we’re having a baby.
We’re having a baby.
Will you marry me? Marry me. Say yes.
Then Huck and Kim kiss and make up. They got married. They bought a home. Huck had some normal before Charlie came in and took it away from him.
It’s going to be a bright, bright, bright, sun shiny day!!! I can see all obstacles in my way.
Huck was happy. He had the woman he wanted. He had a job that he enjoyed. All was well in this moment but when the baby came, Huck’s happy moment dimmed. Contrast that with him being happy torturing folks to when the baby came. He broke down and cried. He knew. He just knew it was only a matter of time before they came and stomp all over his normal life.
He started his watch collection too!
Huck and Kim got hitched!
(Oh my Huck!!! I’m done with my first box of Kleenex at this point. Just stop it! I can’t take it! )
Huck torture montage - Huck collects watches from kills he did. He later on hides the watches in his piano at home. I think 752 is about this at this point! But boy was I proven WRONG! During the montage, Huck gets married and buys a home with Kim. The best ending to this all is that Huck has a son!!! Contrast this with Fitz coaching Mellie and America’s Baby and there’s no comparison at all! Huck’s happy. At work though it all seeks in, he knows it’s going to be sooner or later that his work and his family cannot co-existent.
I cried and cried when the baby came out. Huck has a son. Look at how his voice broke as he said, That’s our son. (I also loved how Huck talk Kim through the delivery. I also love how the doctor tried to warn him that’ll be bloody and Huck was like he’ll be okay. Don’t we know it? I also love how Huck always reminds Kim that he is there for her. Two broken people who fell in love. Sighs.)
Huck’s tears though when he returned back to work ruined me, okay? Ruined!
Cyrus comes to Olitz hospital takeover – Cyrus tells him that it’s a not a good look to be at the hospital and Fitz at this point doesn’t give a damn because he’s staying there until Olivia gets discharged!
He needs to be somewhere else handling urgent POTUS duties?
He simply doesn’t give a damn. In fact he ran out of them the minute he heard Olivia was in the hospital. Deal with it, Cyrus!
Am I the only one tickled by this fact? Am I the only one happy that this just brings us one step closer to a Olitz/Team OFC reunion?
Nope? Wait that’s just me? -ducks head…better yet throws confetti in the sky-
It’s team OFC and Olitz or bust!
But I digress…
What Went Down/My Thoughts:
- Fitz refuses to leave the hospital until Olivia is discharged. (Yeah I know I already said that. Let me tell how the POTUS – The Leader of the Free World basically doesn’t give a damn about anything/anyone but Olivia. Like NONE!)
- Cyrus tells him that he has no idea about the damage control he had to do in order to cover his overnight stay at the hospital. (Fitz could care less!) Cyrus had to replace hospital staff with military staff who wouldn’t tell on Fitz.
- Side eye to the late night booty call. (Oh Cyrus and your wicked sense of humor!)
- I laughed so hard at “Fancy seeing you here!” I truly did!
- Cyrus Beene meets Jake Ballard. (Let that one sentence sink in, Gladiators!)
- Jake brings in coffee for Fitz. (Jake is still in the fandom’s Navy T-Shirt and I’m just >< with it! Understand the humor here, Gladiators!)
- Cyrus and Jake shake hands. (I’m not down with this at all!)
- Cyrus meets the man that’s been coming for his spot as Fitz’s best friend/right hand man. (Did you catch that SWS – shade while smiling exchange between Cyrus and Jake? Roll back that clip for reasons! Cyrus was dishing SWS HARD!)
- Fitz saying that Jake is a man of many talents has got me head spinning for reasons. If only you knew (in my Patti LaBelle voice), If only you knew, Fitz. (Sighs!)
- Fitz’s jacket is off so this means that this is after Olivia kicked him out of the room!
The shade while smiling was in full effect. Peep that fake smile Cyrus dished out to Jake Ballard.
Abby and Huck scene – “The number of times you done something for her and not asking why.” “I was right about David…and Olivia was right too. She saves you and turns you into a Gladiator! And now he’ll never love me like that ever again.”
So, David might love me but I owe Olivia my life.
With Abby she took it back to when she was an abusive marriage/relationship and she took it back to her true love David Rosen. Dabby, oh Dabby! I’m still rooting for them to the bitter end.
Here’s what we do know about Abby from last season:
Abigail Whelan. Married for four years to Charles Putney, the youngest son of former Virginia governor James Putney. She left him when he allegedly beat her in a drunken rage.
Abby in the present
Frustrated that she cannot get answers from Olivia (remember how she got in Olivia’s face about not answering her phone?), she turned to David and Dabby was born! Olivia found out about Dabby and Harrison assisted in ending Dabby by planting battered ex girlfriend photos on David’s Beautiful Mind Wall which lead to RIPDabby. She couldn’t believe she fell in love with the same type again. She became a Gladiator again and stole the Cytron memory card from David and thus RIPDabby. David’s in danger because of Albatross. They’re all out for David. Huck became his bodyguard. When OPA figured out that Osbourne wasn’t the mole, Abby rushed to his side and this action was proof to the audience and David that she still loves him. He still loves her. Fix it, Dabby! Fix it!!
Abby’s Confessional to Huck:
752, I can’t blame you. This job, it’s relentless. The clients, the hours, the loyalty, her. That’s it, right? 752? The number of times you’ve done something for her without ever asking why. That day I went to David’s and told him I loved him and we were in bed for hours, and I was … I was so happy. I was … It felt good. Being with David felt good. I was just relieved to know that I wasn’t wrong about him, that he really did love me, and I was right about him. I was right, I was right! If someone punches you enough times and tells you that you’re worthless, if the man that’s supposed to love you, your husband, does that enough, you stop thinking you can be right about anything, but I was right about David. He loved me, I was right. But Olivia loves me too. She has a hell of a way of showing it, but she does. She rescued me from my husband, he was going to kill me, and she rescued me. So David might love me, but I owe Olivia my life. That’s how she gets you. She saves you. She saves you and turns you into a gladiator, a solider and we live and die for her. We’re blindly loyal, no questions asked, morals be damned because she loves us and this becomes who we are, gladiators; and it’s amazing and it’s wonderful and it ruins everything so I went into David’s safe and I stole the Cytron card and now he’ll never love me like that again. Yeah, if I had to make a choice like that 751 more times, I’d probably be right where you are, buddy.
Dabby in happy times. She’s wearing his shirt while they research about Hollis Doyle’s oil energy spending….
More Dabby memories…
Charlie’s the unexpected visitor to Huck’s home – Charlie tells him to shut it down! Charlie to Huck: “Fix it. Take care of it. As in get rid of her…or we’ll take care of it for you. There are no outs.”
Huck’s normal happy life is ruined. B613 storms in and takes Huck. Kim and their son are left behind. (Oh My Huck!) This will be the last time Huck holds Kim and I’m just like HOLD ME!!!!
Huck in a box – B613 shuts it down in the worse way and puts Huck in a box.
Harrison & Huck – I’ll paraphrase what Harrison said to Huck: You’re a man of a few words. You’re a man of action. You made me realize that all I ever been was talk. Harrison has nothing but love AND respect for Huck. (Give this man a Emmy!!!)
Times Harrison talk that talk
All I am, All I’ve ever been was talk.
If you’ve been a faithful reader of my blog, you know I am a huge supporter of Harrison Wright.
Harrison is a loyal Gladiator in a suit big time. Think back to the very first time we learned much more about favorite Gladiators in a suit. We owe Harrison Wright what we all call ourselves – Gladiators. Harrison won us over with that line to Quinn from the very first episode. His attention to detail was unmatched. Remember how he figured out what was on the black box? Remember how he said “Sunny Day?” Remember how he got a judge blushing? Remember how he said “Shut it down?” Remember how he talked to the Pastor’s mistress? All of this was evidence of Harrison talking that talk. When Olivia needs someone to smooth talk things over, she calls on Harrison. He’s charming as she said. Anyone else felt for Harrison when he tried to talk to the SSA men outside Olivia’s hospital room and it didn’t work? That moment took me back to when Harrison had to deal with the B613 Spies at OPA. Look at his face at both instances. His Big Office Talk swag light dimmed just a little when Hal (of all people to dare try to shut down Harrison too but I digress) told him, “No, sir.”
(GIF H/T: melliegrants )
Here’s what we do know about Harrison from last season:
Harrison Wright. 28 years old. Grew up right here in DC. He somehow managed to go from selling luxury cars in Takoma park to working for Adnan Salif. Made a mountain of money and managed to only get six months when Salif went down for insider trading.
How did he manage to pull that off?
A great lawyer, Olivia Pope, defended him pro bono.
Harrison’s confessional with Huck:
I’m a talker. It’s what I do, I talk. Since I was a kid, I could talk myself in or out of anything: bedtime, homework, curfew. It’s how I sold cars, sailed through law school, how I got clients and get girls. Hell, it almost landed me in jail if it wasn’t for Liv, but you’re not a talker. You’re action man so I can only imagine what you’ve seen, what you’ve done, what you’ve had done to you and have to imagine because you’re not just a man of few words but the fewest words possible so I fill in the blanks, we all do. So I don’t know what to say. I don’t know how to get through to you, me, the man who talks. Some of that is on you for always being so closed up but way more, it’s on me because all my talk and all that game seems like kid stuff compared to who you are, what you’ve been. Like I’ve spent my whole life: trying to get out of homework while you live life of a warrior, of a man. A real-deal gladiator. So I have no idea what to say here… because you make me realize pretty much every day and especially right now…that all I’ve ever been, all I am, all I’ve ever been, was talk. So I’ll just sit here, and I won’t run my mouth with a lot of noise that’s not worthy. So you be as full-on crazy as you want for as long as you need, and I’m gonna be here, right here with you.
Yeah, we got time.
WE NEED MORE ON HARRISON’S PAST BUT THIS WAS EVERYTHING!!!!
Do you have a wife and child? Yes! (This was what had me reaching for a third box of Kleenex. ) B613 kept opening and closing that box and asking Huck that same question. Each time they opened it, Huck became a shell of himself. He slowly turned into Hagrid Huck…and the transition to that point was heartbreaking! Two months though? (Oh My Huck!)
Snitching Hal – Hal tells Mellie that Fitz hasn’t left Olivia’s side at the hospital. (\_ Have a seat, Hal!!!) I need Mellie was up to something when I noticed the absence of her pearls. Mellie’s plotting, ya’ll and Hal just gave her a signal boost. “Thank you, Hal. I appreciate all that you’ve done for me.” It’s quite easy to see how Hal also told her about Fitz taking Olivia to see the Constitution right? Where in the world was Tom during all of this???!!!!
Olitz in the One Minute Moment –
Let’s get into this Olitz moment from Seven Fifty Two and how it all comes in full circle in so many great different ways. There were parallels on top of parallels. I thought back to Treegate, Rose Garden, their first one minute and many other Olitz moments just for this one scene.
When Fitz walked into the room with Olivia’s clothes, I automatically thought back to #TreeGate. Yes granted that he is wearing the same outfit then as he is now. But I thought back to when he bought her those pair of boots. He did this because he loves Olivia.
As soon as Fitz walked in Olivia jumped out and was ready to explode, Fitz shut all of that down with “Defiance changed me.” Pin dropped, right?
My Olitz! WHY!!! Fitz told her that he’s been angry because she tried to fix him. She tried to handled him. She tried to fix it with DC5 (Cyrus, Mellie, Hollis and Verna.)
The time Fitz’s words stopped Olivia in her tracks. Let’s focus on all of that!!!
I thought back to the Rose Garden scene when Fitz declared his love for her and look at Olivia’s face then, it matches her face in their One Minute hospital scene.
It’s like she cannot believe this man loves her so deeply and passionately. It literally blows her mind away for #OneMinute.
I also loved that they talked. They finally TALKED. T-A-L-K! Olivia said she did everything for him. Fitz told her that he didn’t need her to fix him, handle it. They were suppose to be a team. Remember they’re in this together?
When she turned and walked away it took me back to their first Oval Office moment in Sweet Baby….and how Fitz came up behind her and let it out. “We deserve another chance.”
There were many great parallels in last night’s episode but this one parallel stuck out the most. This is it. This is just them.
The more layers Olitz peel back the more I root for them. I want them to get to their happy ending…and I’m here for all the bumps leading to it. (It’s team Olitz or bust!) That kiss they shared shortly after said it all between them. It’s that “I can’t breathe without you” love. It’s that “My every feeling is controlled by the look on your face” love. It’s that “I cannot exist without you” love.
Hat tip to the gif makers because a screenshot of Olivia’s facial expression wouldn’t cut it for the point I’m trying to make.
Then the One Minute song plays and Fitz goes for the kill with this:
I cannot exist w/o you. I cannot breathe w/o you. I’m nothing and you’re everything. We’re worth another chance.
I’m gone at this point. Literally, physically, and emotionally gone! How he came up behind her and said all of that though? Take me higher!!!!
I was thinking back to this moment at this point…
And this too…
He told her he was there because he loves her. I was gone. I said to myself just forget the damn wine bottle! Forget it! Then they kissed and I’m reaching for the bottle! Forget the glass!!! That kiss expressed everything.
Looks familiar right?
Then Olivia says she can’t. I thought back to this moment…
When she said “I do”, I thought FUTURE!!! It’s a yes or no question but she says “I do.” Anyone else thought of wedding vows when Olivia said to Fitz: I do? Was that just me?! #OneMinute has once again added another layer of Olitz emotions! My Olitz feelings were gone at this moment. GONE! G-O-N-E!!!! Then their song played. GONE! Floating to Olitz heaven, ya’ll!
- Olivia: You can go.
- Fitz: You don’t dismiss me.
- Olivia: I don’t want to talk to you. I’m never gonna be ready to talk to you, so why don’t you just –
- Fitz: I love you.
- Olivia: - stop saying that. You’re having me followed, watched. There are cameras in my apartment. That’s not love.
- Fitz: You have to understand. Defiance changed everything for me. Everything.
- Olivia: You think it didn’t change me? You think it was easy, simple? I went against everything I believed in for you. I did that for you. Everything was for you, and you walked away. You didn’t even let me explain.
- Fitz: I thought you believed in me. I thought you thought I was good enough. I thought, I thought you saw me.
- Olivia: I did see you. I do see you.
- Fitz: No, you didn’t. You don’t. I wanted to win this on my own. I wanted to win it because I deserved it. I wanted to win it because I had the will of the people behind me. I wanted to own becoming President of the United States of America. I didn’t want it handed to me. I didn’t want you fixing it for me. That’s what you do, Livvy. You handle, you fix.
- Olivia: I was trying to help.
- Fitz: You don’t fix me! You don’t handle me! THAT is not love, that’s control. I asked you to be a team. We should’ve been a team. It should’ve been me and you, but instead it was you and Verna and Cyrus and Hollis and Mellie. I am angry that you fixed the election, but I am even angrier that you thought you were fixing me.
- Olivia: You’re angry … then why are you here?
- Fitz: I’m here because I love you.
- Olivia: And how does that change anything that has happened? What’s the point?!
- Fitz: Do you still love me? Do you? Still love me?
- Olivia: Does it matter?
- Fitz: It matters. Do you still love me is a yes or no question… Olivia?
- Olivia: I do… but I can’t do this anymore.
- Fitz: Wait, wait, just wait. Just wait one minute. This past year I have learned only one thing: that I cannot exist without you, that I cannot breathe without you; that the man I am without you is …. I’m nothing. I’m nothing and you are everything, and I need you to give me another chance. I demand another chance. We’re worth another chance.
- : [kissing, panting] Olivia – you hurt me. Fitz – I’m sorry.
- Olivia: I can’t. I just .. I can’t.
Mellie’s leaving Fitz…and she’s taking the kids! Teddy doesn’t wanna go. Anyone else caught that? He wants to stay with his Dad.
Mellie to Fitz: Because good luck getting re-elected once I start talking. I’m done.
- Joe Morton wants to use Olivia as bait. Jake wants out b/c of conflict of interest.
- Huck joins B613 and Charlie spares his life. Huck becomes a ghost.
- Joe Morton is with Charlie in the flashback??? WTF?! Jake’s working for B613? WTF??? My head hurts. It all makes sense now. Jake wants out but there’s no outs working for B613. LAWD.
- Olivia comes back home! She talks to Huck. Her touch gets him to stop 752 chat.
Huck. I have to admit I’m not a person who gives change to homeless guys in the metro. I don’t do that. I don’t stop. Which is… I don’t stop, but I stopped for you. You made me stop. It was your eyes, you had the saddest eyes. They were sadder than mine. The thing is, Huck, you always say that I saved you. That’s not true, it’s not even close to true. I had been all alone for a very long time. There were moments, people who somehow convinced me that I’m wrong, that I’m not alone, that I have something to… People let you down. People hurt you. People lie. I’m all alone, except for you. Harrison and Abby and Quinn are… we take care of them, we love them, but they don’t live on the dark side of the moon. They’re different. So Huck, I need you to step out of this. whatever this is, whatever happened to you, you have to come back to me. I need you. You are all I have. You are everything. Because I didn’t save you in that metro station, you saved me.
Let’s talk about Olivia’s healing touch!
Olivia’s healing touch has a calming effect.
I know I wasn’t the only Gladiator who thought back to the time Olivia’s touch pulled someone out of it. When Olivia touched Huck and he immediately came back from 752 to the present, I thought back to when Olivia spent one minute with Fitz while he was in a coma.
Remember how Olivia hesitant to touch Fitz when he was in a coma? Remember when she finally did touch Fitz? Remember Fitz’s “Hi” to Olivia?
The Huck and Olivia scene had parallels upon parallels but that was one thing that stuck out the most for me. I loved that each OPA Gladiator approached Huck to try to pull him out of 752 but it was Olivia’s touch that got our Huck back.
Sad eyes recognize sad eyes! Olivia and Huck’s bond is so close!
752 am is the time Huck’s son gave him a dollar!!! It’s also the last time Huck sees his son and his wife Kim. They don’t know it’s him and just breaks my heart. 752 will never, ever be the same!!!!
I have questions:
- Fitz knows what he wants. Fitz tells Olivia that she wants HER!What will Olivia Pope do NOW?
- Mellie’s out for blood! She’s truly a Woman Scorned! Mellie’s giving Fitz 36 hours. I’m calling her bluff. Am I right?
- How many miles per hour did Cyrus Beene speed down the tunnels there going back and forth between Mellie and Fitz?
- Cyrus is on Operation Take Down Olivia Pope. I’m going to assume that he’s going to use that Olivia/Jake relationship to ‘control’ the situation. Right or wrong?
- Will OPA learn the REAL truth about Jake?
- Will Huck get Charlie?
- Who is the damn mole??????
