Look at Fitz’s body language. He’s right at home with Jake. He’s comfortable with Jake. He has his feet up on the table and he’s tossing back that drink. Jake and Fitz are also exchanging stories too before Fitz redirected the conversation. Fitz rarely lets folks in on him - his true self. He gave Jake a peek into that side of his self that he usually reserves for Mellie, Cyrus and Olivia. (Wait until Mellie gets wind of this meeting!)
What we know about Fitz
He has a decorated military background. Jake’s a Captain. He’s a Navy man. I think Fitz has great respect for his Navy men who I think he sees as his brothers.

girl I said the same thing… Mellie is going to go ape ish when she finds out. I just asked @ScandalABC about Hal and Tom (eventhough I think I called him another name lol). Fitz must have found out that they were telling on him lol. Mellie is going to bury him alive or go after Liv. Jake said to Fitz that he hadden seen him in 3 yrs which means to me that they definitely had some type of friendship.
Jake is Fitz brother.
I think they served together, You develop lasting friendships and fitz must have people he can trust in his inner circle… people that have his back no matter what happens.
I think that Fitz and Jake were in the Navy together and see themselves a band of brothers There was the hug, and all of the “chit chat” about the others that were a part of there group, when Jake first arrived. I think that Fitz asked Tom to contact Jake because he knows that he can trust Tom but not Hal, and since Tom and Hal work together, Tom would not have been able to watch Liv without the snitch finding out and taking it back to Mellie.
I think that Jake was a good choice originally , but now that he seems to be attracted to Liv, he may become a problem. Fitz may have to “Huck” him.
Fitz’ entire inner circle has fallen apart. He has no idea who he can trust. So it’s clear that he’s going to find someone who he can trust – from a simpler, more straightforward, honor-bound time in his life… his Navy ‘brother’/comrade.
Still, it’s clear that Jake isn’t in on the whole story. So the trust only goes sooo far…
The more I think about it, the more I’m willing to believe that Jake was watching Liv for a while, then liked what he saw and decided to “meet” and date her. He had noooo clue Fitz was lying that it isn’t personal. That he turned off the pics while she was changing, suggests he really likes her.
What intrigues me is how long it’ll take him to put 2+2 together…
